Welcome to our website! We hope you enjoy your visit. This is a site for K-12 teachers and students looking for ways to use nature as an inspiration and guide for problem-solving. Whatever you want to call it, bio-inspired design, biomimicry, or biomimetics, it is a fascinating subject... and it is rich in solutions to some of our planet's most pressing problems.
Besides, what could be cooler than using hippo sweat as a sun block, or designing buildings based on bubbles, or having a sharkskin swimsuit? We hope you will let us help you build your next BioDreamMachine.
We are just growing the site now, so be sure to come back soon to see more of our content. Eventually you will be able to navigate this site by topic, name search or by clicking on one of the category icons listed at the top of this page. You will find case studies, links to other useful pages, teaching tips, lesson plans and guides. We will also have a “heroes” section for you to learn about some of the people working in the field of bio-inspired research, design, engineering and education.
We will be adding our Contribute page soon, because we want to hear from you: how you liked our site, what else you would like to see, and what experiences in the world of science and education you have had.
For now, feel free to click on our links at the top of this page to learn more about us, see some model lesson plans, and link to some essays on bio-inspired design... and, oh yes, about that hippo sweat:
