Our Mission is to bring the benefits of bio-inspired design and science instruction to public and private K-12 education in the United States.

Welcome!

Welcome to our website! We hope you enjoy your visit. This is a site for K-12 teachers and professionals looking for ways to show nature as an inspiration and guide for problem-solving. Whatever you want to call it, bio-inspired design, biomimicry, or biomimetics, it is a fascinating subject... and it is rich in solutions to some of our planet's most pressing problems. It is also a very cool way to teach many different subjects!

While Velcro is perhaps the most famous example of bio-inspired design (inspired by the seedburs of the Burdock plant), there are literally hundreds of new discoveries or innovations based on nature developed every year. From universities, laboratories, industrial designers and medical researchers have come improvements in all sorts of products, processes, and systems. Ultra-slippery materials that shed water, dirt, snow and ice; minute machines that build themselves, robots that can climb any surface, highly efficient turbines, and all manner of swimming and flying craft have been invented because of the inspirational spark someone got from nature. It's a very exciting (and contagious) field, and is part of the "biological revolution" that Science is now experiencing.

At BioDreamMachine we develop educational materials, teach workshops, and connect educators with resources about this subject. Please let us know if you would like to have one of us come to your school or company, or if you have a particular biomimicry project you would like to collaborate on, or need advice for.

Please let us know what else you would like to see on this website. Finally,we are always looking for stories from you, the teachers and professionals who are guiding our children and our fellow citizens, so let us know your experiences teaching this very new and engaging subject.
